There isn’t a huge rush to do this, as the libraries use “hard links” so that each library isn’t a true duplicate.

Apple has removed iPhoto from it's offerings but if you have a recent version (iPhoto '11) then an update may be available to you so that it will run under OS X 10.10 On your Mac, open the App Store app. However, you should still be able to access iPhoto under Yosemite at this point with the latest release. The best part is that the Photo Library is almost identical to that of iOS 8’s regarding functionality. Unlike the iPhoto Library, Photos app has more user-friendly features to let you manage your photos in an all-new way. Apple has brought Photo Library with its latest OS X update 10.10.3.
